Enchanted Forest Mushroom #16

A spalted maple mushroom cap on a maple tree, with roots in a wood base. The colour of the wood base reveals the distinct boundary of the heartwood and sapwood. The base was cut from the branch of a Western Red cedar, the branch being a causality of an ice storm in January of 2015. The rings in the branch also shows how the tree grows twice as much wood on the underside of the branch, to provide the strength needed for the horizontal orientation of the branches. 62 centimetres tall.
